Author, Curriculum Writer, Educational Consultant, Designer, Amateur Baker, Paper Artisan, Watercolor Enthusiast . . .
I am a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) with a Masters Degree in Curriculum & Instruction, and I currently mentor others who are working towards National Board Certification. I am also a curriculum writer and educational consultant. Having taught English Language Arts for over 25 years, my concentration has focused on levels 9-12 although I am certified 6-12. As I consider my teaching experiences, though, I am lucky to have been able to work with students at many levels and in many contexts: urban to rural, national to international, and K-12- to university- to community college, to online masters program-level. I have taught AP Language and Composition for 17 years; however, I have a broad range of K-12 teaching experience: English 6, English 9, English 10, Enriched English 10, American Literature 1 and 2, Grammar and Usage, Humanities, British Literature, AP Language and Composition, Writing Across The Curriculum, English for the 21st Century, and English 12. And just because I, too, have the need to brush up on my skills focus, I also teach ACT preparatory courses at the university level.
My overarching goal, however, is to create a safe and collaborative classroom environment, utilizing partnerships and groups whenever I can so that students are engaged and eager to try new things--regardless of their age, skill set, or academic level.
